Hyundai N Vision 74: From Concept to Production

After a tantalising two-year wait, Hyundai has given enthusiasts and industry watchers a reason to get excited about the N Vision 74. The striking concept car, which has been the subject of much speculation, is poised to make the leap from prototype to production. Here’s what we know about this upcoming high-performance vehicle.

A Vision Reimagined

The Hyundai N Vision 74, initially revealed in 2022, is a futuristic homage to the 1974 Pony coupe concept car, designed by the renowned Giorgetto Giugiaro. The original concept car captivated onlookers with its bold design and advanced technology, showcasing Hyundai’s ambition to blend past and future in a spectacular fashion.

The prototype N Vision 74 was labeled as a 'high performance EV' which is powered hydrogen, utilising a fuel cell to generate electricity and charge a small battery that powered its electric motors. This innovative approach offered a glimpse into Hyundai’s vision of combining hydrogen and electric power for high-performance applications.

Production Confirmation

In a recent investor presentation, Hyundai confirmed plans to include the N Vision 74 in its lineup of 21 new electric vehicles (EVs) to be launched by 2030. While specific details about the production timeline remain elusive, there’s significant buzz surrounding the vehicle’s transition to a battery-electric powertrain. The concept, initially a hydrogen-powered marvel, could adopt full battery-electric power when it hits the market. 

Reports from South Korea suggest that production could begin as early as mid-2026. According to the Hankyung newspaper, Hyundai might produce 200 examples annually over a two-year period, with each unit commanding a premium price of around 500 million won (approximately $550,000). This exclusivity underscores Hyundai’s commitment to creating a high-end, high-performance EV that stands out in the market.

What to Expect from the Production Model

While the N Vision 74’s prototype boasted impressive performance figures with up to 500 kW of power and 900 Nm of torque, the production model is expected to build on these numbers. The vehicle will likely utilise Hyundai’s E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) found in the Ioniq 5 N. This platform supports up to 478 kW and 778 Nm, and with advancements in technology, the N Vision 74’s electric version could push these figures even higher. 

It is claimed that the acceleration for the concept was a -0-100km/h in 3.0 seconds flat - making the concept car quicker than the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N and a rival to EVs such as the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, Tesla Model S Plaid and other electric hyper-cars. 

Hyundai has also trademarked the N74 name, hinting that the production model may drop the "Vision" from its title, signalling a shift from concept to a tangible product ready for enthusiasts and collectors alike.
